Academics
Ivy Prep is a one-form entry school with classes from Nursery to Year 9, catering for children aged between 2–14 years. All children are taught in mixed ability classes; our main language of instruction is English. Our curriculum is broadly based on the National Curriculum used in UK schools and the Cambridge International Examinations programs.
We have a strong emphasis on academic excellence in a fun learning Christian environment. Small class sizes, high quality teaching and personalised learning has led to outstanding progress; the school is well regarded for its high academic standards.
EARLY
YEARS
Our Early Years stage includes the following classes: Nursery, Pre-school and Reception.
Our Early Years curriculum is based on the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) Framework which sets out the learning and development goals for children as they grow from birth to five years.
Children in the EYFS mainly learn by playing and exploring, being active, and through creative and critical thinking which takes place both indoors and outside. Teaching and learning becomes more formal as the children progress through this stage.
PRIMARY
Our primary stage consists of the following classes: Year 1, Year 2, Year 3, Year 4, Year 5 and Year 6.
Our primary curriculum is primarily based on the National Curriculum used in UK primary schools. English, Mathematics and Science are the core subjects which make up the bulk of the timetable.
Other foundation subjects such as: French, Computing, History, Geography, Art, Music, Religious Education and Physical Education play a key part in providing a broad and balanced curriculum, which in addition to offering progression and coverage, provides opportunities for promoting children’s skills to think, apply knowledge and to develop talents and interests.
LOWER
SECONDARY
Our Lower Secondary consists of the following classes: Year 7, Year 8 and Year 9.
Our secondary curriculum is mainly based on the Cambridge International Examinations Secondary 1 courses. Subjects taught include: English (Language and Literature), Mathematics, Biology, Chemistry, Physics, History, Geography, French, Computing, Art, Music, Religious Education and Physical Education.
We aim to develop each child as an individual, as a member of society and future member of the community with the necessary personal and social qualities and responsibilities.
So far, we are especially pleased that all of our graduating secondary students have gained highly competitive places at academically selective schools.
