Do sunflowers follow the sun?
Have you ever heard anyone say “the study of plants (botany) is the boring side of science”?
This impression is understandable, after all, plants don’t move… or so it seems. Our pupils in Harvard Class (Years 1 and 2), however, would disagree.
This term, Harvard had tremendous fun studying plants; they were thrilled to investigate a variety of plants within our school compound and as part of a planned excursion to a local garden. The students gained a solid understanding of what plants need to grow healthily and are now able to provide a personal response - backed by evidence - in answer to our investigation question: Do sunflowers follow the sun?
Power in unity
Ivy Prep joined many others on the African Continent and the Diaspora celebrating Africa Day 2017. Our vibrant campus had an additional splash of colour and character that day as staff and students paraded in their national/traditional attire representing their chosen African home country.
The message of unity that Africa Day propagates is a key value that our school encourages and celebrates on a daily basis.
Mission: Possible!
We had the opportunity to conquer our fears on the high ropes at Legon Botanical Gardens.
This school excursion taught us much about tackling seemingly challenging situations and coming out victorious (and ready for more)!
(By the way, our School Principal was a superstar on the ropes! ; ))
Author and Illustrator Day
Two authors and an illustrator visited our school for Ivy's very own 'Author and Illustrator Day'.
This was a great opportunity for the children; they learnt about how books are made: from conception stage (inside story), to how they arrive on the shelves at the bookstore.
The students asked brilliant questions and our visitors were very impressed with their curiosity, energy, insight and intelligence.
